Asia (NPEA), the leading exhibition for

Convention and Exhibition Centre again on 23 – 25 August

Researchers from
University of California,
Los Angeles recently found
out that Vitamin D plays an essential role in the body fighting against
infections such as tuberculosis. Tuberculosis is a potentially fatal
lung disease causes 1.8 million deaths annually. People with darker
skin traditionally have had a higher susceptibility to this disease as
the skin pigment melanin reduces vitamin D production
inside the body.
Vitamin D — a natural hormone, rather than a vitamin
— is known to be instrumental in bone development but also
may protect against cancer and autoimmune diseases and fight
infections.
Scientists found that
there was an 85
percent reduction of
colony-forming tuberculosis bacteria in human macrophage cells that
were effectively treated with interferon-g in the presence of
sufficient vitamin D. According to the research, vitamin D may help
both innate and adaptive immunity, two systems that work
synergistically together to fight infections. (More

suppliers have already
confirmed their participation in NPEA 2012, celebrating its 10th
edition together with organizer. For instance, American Nutrition
