Global markets at a glance
 
  Despite the economic turbulence and unemployment rate, organic sales in US saw a 5 percent growth in 2010, with beverages, fruits, vegetables and dairy doing particularly well. OTA forecasts that the sales will continue to go up in 2011 and certified organic meat sector sees opportunity for growth.
Similarly in Asia-Pacific, beauty food and beverages categories have been recorded with considerable growth. Research firm Kline Group forecasts that the sector is expected to reach US$2.5 billion in 2012, up from US$1.5 billion in 2007.

NSF International, a global not-for-profit public health and safety organization, has opened a new testing laboratory in Shanghai, China, to support the increasing demand for testing and certification services in the areas of food equipment, food and food ingredient, dietary supplements and ingredients, pharmaceuticals and excipients and consumer products.

The NSF Shanghai Testing Laboratory (full name NSF Shanghai Testing Technology Company) also will provide on-site training for the food safety, pharmaceutical, medical device and dietary supplement manufacturing industries specifically:

- Food safety training such as Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Points (HACCP) for food growers, producers, distributors and retailers.

- Training programs that focus on Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP), Good Laboratory Practices (GLP), quality and regulatory compliance are offered for pharmaceutical, medical device and dietary supplement manufacturing professionals.
